You will love this trip. It takes you north on 23/507 to Gooderham, then north/west to Haliburton. We will be visiting the Haliburton Highlands Museum, then travel to the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre. A light lunch is being planned at the base camp at the Wolf Centre.

The 7-hour tour will commence at the Buckhorn Community Centre.  The Buses will leave at 9:00 a.m. sharp, travelling north on hwy 23/507 to Gooderham, north on County Road 3 to Haliburton, north/west on hwy 118/ 7 to the Haliburton Forest & Wildlife Reserve where a  three-hour stop is planned. The Haliburton Forest has constructed a unique interpretative facility, the Haliburton Forest WolfCentre. This centre offers five publicly accessible areas: an observatory overlooking the Grey Wolf enclosure, a large display area with numerous exhibits pertaining to such topics as the “wolf” and “wolves and humans,” a small Cinema/classroom, a gallery, as well as books, tapes and graphics features annual wolf related themes.  Each bus will have their own tour guide from the centre to maximize your viewing pleasure.  A unique lunch will be provided at the Base Camp, an old logging camp that was operational up until the 1970’s 

Although the Wolf Centre is the primary purpose of the tour, other stops are planned en-route. Combined with the gorgeous fall colors of the area that we normally see at this time of the year, there will be a brief stop at the Skyline Park Lookout, overlooking Haliburton where sites of interest will be pointed out.  Next stop is the Haliburton Highlands Museum.

Once again The Greater Harvey Historical Society is planning a Fall Historical Bus Tour. Mark down on your calendar Saturday, September 22nd, 2001. The total cost will be $25.00 per person which includes the cost of the busses, all entrance fees and a light lunch.

The theme of the tour this year is the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre.  This is a unique opportunity to view these animals up close and observe their daily route.  These are the animals that the early settlers had to deal with on an almost daily basis.  Each bus group will have their own tour guide from the centre to maximize your viewing pleasure and answer questions.

There is very little walking required and seats are available in the viewing centre.  A unique lunch will be provided at the Base Camp, an old logging camp that was operational up until the 1970’s.  For the more adventures, you can tour the many building and view a museum related to the old Logging days.

The Museum is situated in Glebe Park on the north shore of Head Lake.  The main Gallery houses a thematic exhibit related to the first inhabitants of the region.  The Reid house is available for viewing, outfitted in a turn of the century style. There are also Log buildings including a working blacksmith shop for your pleasure.
